You’ll also find that there’s no shortage of things to get up to in the local area. Let’s dive straight in...
Discover London’s best wildlife parks and centres
If it’s lions, tigers and bears that keep your kids entertained, ZSL London Zoo is probably your best bet. Situated on the northern edge of Regent’s Park, the world’s oldest scientific zoo offers more than 750 animal species, ranging from komodo dragons to water buffalo.
There’s also Sea Life London Aquarium, which hosts one of Europe’s largest collections of marine life. Introduce your children to an immersive underground world of over 400 marine species, including sea turtles, sharks, clownfish - and the ever-popular penguins.
Show the kids the perfect view of the capital
Not far from the Aquarium, you’ll find one of London’s most recognisable attractions - the London Eye. Standing at a height of 135m, the London eye offers some of the best views of the capital - as does the world’s most famous clock, Big Ben.
If you fancy going one better, however, there’s always The Shard. London's highest and, according to many, best view is now to be found on floors 68, 69 and 72 of this magnificent structure.
Museums that will capture their imaginations
The Science Museum has long been a favourite with families, with exhibits ranging from the Apollo 10 command module to rockets, cars and steam engines. There’s also a fantastic play area in the basement called The Garden, where children are encouraged to learn about sound and motion through play. Admission is free.
If you’d like to try somewhere a little different, the Discover Children's Story Centre in Stratford uses stories, visits from authors and an outdoor story garden including a spacecraft to inspire children’s imaginations. Suitable for children aged 0-11, Discover is the perfect place for young families to learn, play and create stories together.
Take a trip back in time at Hampton Court
Hampton Court has long been popular with families. This owes in large part to its maze, which dates back to 1714 and continues to baffle visitors to this day.
The palace is also now home to the Magic Garden. This interactive play garden is a great way for your family to explore the palace’s past, with mysterious mythical beasts, battlements, towers and a secret grotto.
