What is The Nutcracker at Royal Albert Hall about?
For many people, The Nutcracker is one of those shows you always hear about around Christmas, or maybe only catch a glimpse of when flipping through channels on the TV, but don’t actually know the story or why it’s always on this time of year.
The Nutcracker is a ballet set around Christmas Eve about a girl who travels to the “land of sweets”. It wasn’t a very popular performance when originally adapted from a short story to a ballet by Tchaikovsky but became associated with Christmas from the 1940s when many theatres in Europe ad American started putting it on as a timely event.
Today in many well-known theatres just like the Royal Albert Hall, The Nutcracker is a firm Christmas favourite.
